More about the topic
In the film, we follow Theo, who has to make a choice – should he share his candy with his little sister, or keep everything to himself? On the beach he sees different people – one is unhappy even though he has his corner to himself, while another shares with her friend and has a great time. Even though he might have thought that it was best to keep everything to himself to start with, Theo learns that by sharing and doing good to others, you actually become happy. When we are kind to others and share with them, we get to experience heavenly joy within us, and we get on well with the others! It is God Himself who has decided that it should be like that, and think how lucky we are to be able to have heavenly joy in us.
Tips for Sunday School
Feel free to start the gathering by sitting in a circle and greeting each other. A good tip is to greet all the children by name, either as they walk in the door or when you start the gathering. This makes them feel recognized and included, and they will be more receptive.
It’s a good idea to plan a regular program setup for this group of the youngest children. Something you always start with, followed by some regular sequences and finally a way of finishing up together. The content and specific activities can vary, but when the children are familiar with the program and what to expect in the next few minutes, they are often quitter and there is a good atmosphere.
Suggestion for a program:
1. Welcome |
2 minutes |
2. Short song – one that they know |
1 minute |
3. Film |
around 5 minutes |
4. Conversation, in which the children also get to think, ask and participate. |
Max 5 minutes |
5. Singing with actions, learn some fun moves |
2-3 minutes |
6. An activity |
Length depends on the type of activity, but this shouldn´t take too long either. |
7. Thanks for today |
1 minute |
Total length excluding the activity |
Max 15 minutes |
Coloring sheet
Feel free to use the coloring sheets and let the children draw during the activity. Try to find an alternative for those children who do not like to color. This could also be a game or a physical activity.
