More about the topic

Have you ever done something that wasn’t so nice for others? Maybe something that was little bit bad? Have you experienced the bad and sad feeling you get inside you then? In the film we see that this is exactly what happened to Theo. He took a large piece of the cake that his sister had made, even though he knew she didn’t think it was okay. At first he thought it was great – he had a delicious piece of cake. But then that bad feeling crept in. And when he saw how sad his sister was, he had to make a choice. Should he hide what he had done, or say sorry? When he chose to say sorry, he felt a lot better and his sister was also happy.

Saying sorry for something wrong we have done gives us a clean and good conscience again. That is why learning to say sorry is very important. We must ask Jesus for forgiveness, and the others we hurt and made sad. Then it can be good inside us again, and we help those we hurt, so they also feel better. When we apologize and are sorry for the silly things we did, it also helps us to do better next time.

Tips for Sunday School

Feel free to start the gathering by sitting in a circle and greeting each other. A good tip is to greet all the children by name, either as they walk in the door or when you start the gathering. This makes them feel recognized and included, and they will be more receptive.

It’s a good idea to plan a regular program setup for this group of the youngest children. Something you always start with, followed by some regular sequences and finally a way of finishing up together. The content and specific activities can vary, but when the children are familiar with the program and what to expect in the next few minutes, they are often quitter and there is a good atmosphere.

Suggestion for a program:

1. Welcome

2 minutes

2. Short song – one that they know

1 minute

3. Film

around 5 minutes

4. Conversation, in which the children also get to think, ask and participate.

Max 5 minutes

5. Singing with actions, learn some fun moves

2-3 minutes

6. An activity

Length depends on the type of activity, but this shouldn´t take too long either.

7. Thanks for today

1 minute

Total length excluding the activity

Max 15 minutes

Coloring sheet

Feel free to use the coloring sheets and let the children draw during the activity. Try to find an alternative for those children who do not like to color. This could also be a game or a physical activity.

QUESTIONS FOR CONVERSATION

  1. Why do we feel bad when we do silly things that we know we shouldn’t do?

  2. Sometimes it isn’t easy to say sorry. Why do you think it’s like that?

  3. Why do you become happy when you say sorry and ask for forgiveness?

  4. What must you do if someone has done something bad to you but then says sorry?

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.

“… bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:13.

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”James 5:16.

“Therefore if you … remember that your brother has something against you, … first be reconciled to your brother.”Matthew 5:23-24.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”Psalm 103:12.
